 York Motor Factors Ltd was founded in 1969 by husband and wife team Bill and Mary O’Brien. The original premises were rather modest, an old butchers shop, in Layerthorpe.
Today the business operates from two purpose built sites in York and Malton, with a fleet of eighteen delivery vehicles. We are, of course, planning to develop the business further.
The business has evolved and grown with the development of the motor car. In the late sixties and seventies our roads were dominated by Vauxhall, Ford and British Leyland vehicles; Japanese and European cars remained relatively rare.
Today's roads are characterised by a much broader range of makes and models. This has led to a huge increase in the range and volume of parts we have had to stock. The modern engine is far more sophisticated than its predecessors. Sixteen valve engines, fuel injection units, computerised engine management systems, turbo chargers and air conditioning are all now mainstream.
As a business we have embraced these changes and developed our commercial offering to match the changing needs of the market place. An increasingly important part of today's business is providing diagnostic and technical equipment, components, training and information.
Vehicle components are, however, only part of the picture. Like any other business we depend on our “people.” It is people who make the difference and at York Motor Factors we have an excellent team, committed to setting us apart from the competition. When customers contact us they can speak to experienced, knowledgeable and friendly sales personnel.
We try and combine the latest information technology such as VRM (sourcing accurate vehicle data from your registration number) with an “old fashioned” genuine interest in the job! We want you to call back with repeat business.
Our objective is very simple; we want to supply the right part at the right price at the right time…every time! We are often told we achieve this far more frequently than our competitors.
The Sales team are supported by a small army of delivery drivers and co-ordinators who ensure the right parts get to the right customers at the right time. Our customers frequently compliment us on how helpful, courteous and efficient our drivers are.
Our office staff are also of a very high calibre. Account queries and warranty issues are all dealt with in the same positive and professional manner.
A significant date
In 1994 we were invited to join the country’s premier buying group, an organisation known as the IFA. This proved a very significant date in our development. It allowed us access to world class original equipment brands at prices which enabled us to compete in an increasingly competitive market place. As importantly membership also enabled us to network with some of the most respected individuals in our industry; in turn this brought new ideas and fresh in sights into our business.
